About Us

In 2017 Brad Baker founded BBD, starting modestly as an Electrician and his Apprentice. Since then, the company has expanded to a team of over 20 professionals, operating from our offices in Hertford. The business was established in his hometown, building upon strong relationships within the local community to foster growth and success. Today, the business has evolved into an international organisation while remaining true to its roots; we continue to serve the Home Counties while successfully securing contracts across the UK and beyond.

At the core of our company ethos is a commitment to open and effective communication right from the start. Problem-solving is second nature to us, and we collaborate closely with our clients to ensure that every project is completed to the highest standard.

Impact in the Community

“I am passionate about changing the stigma that comes with being an Electrician. I find that the education system often sees construction as a Plan B, but I have built an enjoyable and successful career and I am keen to provide young people with opportunities to do the same. Our goal is to foster an environment where our team not only grows professionally but also feels welcomed and included in our collective journey.”

In addition to serving as an Enterprise Advisor to local schools, BBD have also partnered with Herts Regional College to support the development of educational programmes and offer apprenticeship opportunities for students.

Dislikes: Laziness, lateness, football, bad service

Best Piece of Advice: There’s no such word as can’t

Brad is the founder of BBD Electrical, having started his career as an electrical Apprentice at the age of 19. Brad is dedicated to building BBD into a thriving business that not only excels in service but also gives back to the local community. As the driving force behind the company, he oversees its commercial operations and manages the workforce alongside the Project Managers, ensuring a strong, supportive environment for both staff and clients.

Rhianna Barnes

Estimator & Project Support
Likes: Watching & playing sport, Pepsi Max, chocolate, reading, animals & old people

Dislikes: Being told what to do, losing, people putting seeds on food & tarragon

Best Piece of Advice: Better late than ugly!

For the past seven years, Rhianna has been an essential part of BBD’s growth and success. As the lead estimator and project support, she serves as a vital link between the office team and the engineers, ensuring seamless communication and project execution. Her deep understanding and long service with the business means there’s not much that goes on without her knowledge!

Wherever Rhianna is, a can of Pepsi Max won’t be too far away – whether it be 8am or 3pm! Outside of work, Rhianna enjoys playing netball locally and is a longstanding season ticket holder at her beloved Stevenage football club. Rhianna is a great cook and enjoys cooking up a feast at weekends.

Chris Barnes

Business Development Manager
Likes: Sport, good customer service, chatting, the countryside, good food
Dislikes: Swearing, being late, technology, reality TV

Best Piece of Advice: Take your time over important decisions and really think things through.

As well as drinking 25 cups of tea a day, Chris is involved in the acquisition and management of new clients at BBD. Having been pivotal in a number of new relationships, especially within the education sector, Chris ensures that the team are kept busy.

Chris is also a Stevenage FC supporter, having held a season ticket for the past 30 years! Sport mad, if Stevenage aren’t playing you will find Chris out running, watching a local sports fixture or playing golf.

Eleanor Baker Barnes

Office Manager
Likes: Running, wine, long weekends away visiting boutique hotels, exploring new places, cooking

Dislikes: Being cold, days indoors, films, snakes

Best Piece of Advice: With the right attitude, you really can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Eleanor loves process and structure, and this is something that she implements at BBD. Responsible for the general office management, Eleanor keeps everyone organised and on track.

The Hertford office is perfectly located for runs along the River Lea so Eleanor often makes the most of this after work, or finds longer routes through the countryside at weekends. After a run, Eleanor enjoys exploring new places and can always find a good coffee spot!

Charlie Smith

Site Manager
Likes: Pizza, tools, Percy pigs, coffee and rugby
Dislikes: Early mornings, mushrooms and writing about himself!

Best Piece of Advice: Work hard & stay humble.

Having joined BBD in March ‘23, Charlie has quickly established himself as a valued member of the team. As well as being a positive, motivated and experienced engineer, Charlie is a good team player who prides himself on the highest standards of work. Charlie develops great relationships with clients and quickly gains trust as a safe pair of hands when running projects.

Charlie is a big rugby fan and a supporter of the mighty Saracens. Although he’s not played for a while, he hasn’t quite given up on the dream of an England call up!

Mitch Haddon

Site Manager
Likes: Working out, fancy clothes and short shorts
Dislikes: Not being busy and sloppy work

Best Piece of Advice: Any job can be done as long as we work as a team.

For the past 5 years, Mitch has been an essential part of BBD’s workforce. Helping BBD complete jobs efficiently and on time, Mitch has progressed into managing projects due to his extensive electrical knowledge. Mitch’s role has allowed BBD to take on larger projects knowing they are in good, safe hands and he established himself amongst the team and clients as a reliable, skilled engineer.

Mitch has more clothes than anyone we know and comes out in a rash if he leaves the house without something designer on!
